Over 4,000 house lots to become available in Region Six by November
More than 4,000 house lots will become available to Region Six residents by November, as the government advances major housing developments at Providence/Glasgow and Overwinning on the East Bank of Berbice.
Minister of Housing Collin Croal and his technical team on Wednesday conducted several site visits in the ancient county to assess infrastructure progress and update prospective homeowners.
Approximately $5.3 billion is being invested in infrastructure works across the development at Overwinning, which spans 744 acres and will accommodate more than 3,000 house lots.
The works are divided into 11 lots and include internal water distribution systems installation, with the majority expected to be completed within another two weeks. Three contractors are behind schedule and will be engaged, with the possibility of liquidated damages being applied.
Minister Coral said most of the allocated applicants will be contacted within the coming month to view their lots, as the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) works to bring the development closer to completion.
He also noted that the development is approximately 91 per cent complete, with additional investments planned to support water supply and electricity distribution as occupancy increases.
Meanwhile, infrastructure investments at Providence/Glasgow stand at $9.3 billion, supporting the delivery of about 1,800 new house lots, which equates to over 650 acres of land.
Minister Croal said the continued rollout of housing infrastructure is critical to ensuring that more families can move from waiting for a house lot to building their own homes.
The projects are part of a broader housing programme to address the backlog of applicants while providing more Guyanese with access to affordable land and the opportunity to achieve homeownership.
